Before You Have an Opinion, make sure you wear the right Lipstick.
Imagine the Pretty Privilege Society as a makeup tutorial hosted by the Joker himself - where each brushstroke is a blend of chaos and charm. Here, we embrace the art of illusion, painting on smiles that mask our inner complexities. It's a world where beauty is the ultimate punchline in life's shadowy satire. In this society, we don't just wear our masks; we perfect them - until "we embody them". We live in a world where using the right lipstick isn't just the underline to your statement - it's the baseline. It seems as in the grand theatre of life, appearance is the opening act that sets the stage for everything else.
Robert Greene:
"Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, more mysterious than the bland and timid masses."
Studies in social psychology have shown that people are more inclined to help or engage with someone they perceive as attractive. And while we all have that inner feminist cheering us on to be valued for who we are on the inside, we can not ignore the power of a good first impression.
Let the Baby talk...
Research shows that the perception of attractiveness is innate, with even babies as young as three to six months old capable of distinguishing between attractive and unattractive faces. If these bundles of purity can spot a pretty face, could this suggest that the recognition of beauty may be a universal force? As much as we wish people would see past the surface and appreciate us for our inner beauty, the truth is, first impressions matter. Research even suggests that a whopping 80% of the decision to go on a second date is based on physical attraction. I came across another study where 73% of people said they read blog posts, yet 78% admitted they barely read them, just skimming or potentially buying. So, why do I even care to find the right words? Are you reading this, or just skimming over it?
Welcome to the Blog Pretty Privilege Society. Somewhere between perfecting my nails, indulging in face masks, faking a smile, and regulating emotions, I've come to terms with the unspoken rules of our societal construct that seem to make life a tad easier. Tired of playing a game I never signed up for, I've developed a certain resilience to the idea that how my face looks while speaking often matters more than what I actually say. But what do I even have to say? I'm a model - I'm here to be seen, not heard. So why fight against something as ingrained as human nature? Pretty Privilege Society is here to embrace it fully - with a pinch of dark humour.
"Grown-up people do not know that a child can give exceedingly good advice even in the most difficult case.” - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Idiot
After all, the smartest thing I could do is to become the prettiest I have ever been.
